I. Research Overview

Embracing world scientific and technological frontiers and China's major needs, Dalian University of Technology (DUT) carries out its work concerning science and technology with a focus on economic growth and the people's lives and health. It takes an active part in building large platforms, organizing large teams, undertaking major projects, and cultivating great achievements, so as to comprehensively improve its capacity for innovation and social services.

DUT has established Institute of Science and Technology, R&D Institute of Technology, and a number of high-standard research platforms, including 21 state-level institutions such as national Collaborative Innovation Center and State Key Laboratories, as well as 94 provincial and ministerial institutions such as Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education.

II. Scientific and Technological Services

Aiming at serving national economy, DUT's industry-university research collaboration has continuously improved the strategic layout of "Liaoning-based and China-oriented", and made beneficial explorations in serving industrial development and building regional system for scientific and technological innovation. Over the years, DUT has set up multiple platforms for scientific and technological innovation such as university-enterprise cooperation committees, common technology innovation platform, and university-enterprise research institutes, which enables distribution of the university's innovation resources to regional industry clusters, and creates tens of billions of economic returns for enterprises.

Regional Cooperation

DUT has always attached great importance to serving local economic industrial development and furthered communication with local governments. The university has actively promoted regional convergence of favorable resources based on the features of regional industrial structure and development needs, and provided technical support for industrial development. Nearly 20 innovation platforms have been set up in Shenzhen, Chengdu, Zhengzhou and other national priority cities around the Bohai-Rim region, the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta and the Xinjiang Region. In addition, DUT has leveraged its talent advantage to serve the regional construction of scientific and technological innovation system, by recommending more than 300 experts for local governments and authorities at all levels.

Cooperation with Enterprises

DUT has always committed to providing technical support and talent reserves for the innovation and development of enterprises. As early as 2000, DUT established three university-enterprise cooperation committees in Liaoning, Dalian, and Xinjiang respectively, which created new ways for exchanges in addition to the traditional one-way link between local governments, enterprises and universities, providing a solid guarantee for enterprises to promote innovative development. So far, the three committees have attracted over 200 member enterprises across multiple technological sectors such as mechanics, IT, energy, chemicals, materials, etc. Moreover, DUT has underlined cooperation with leading and backbone enterprises, and developed comprehensive strategic partnership with over 80 companies, such as China Three Gorges Corporation, Hisense Group, China Communications Construction Company, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd, CRRC, Xinjiang Goldwind Sci & Tech Co.,Ltd, Wafangdian Bearing Group Corp.,Ltd, etc., and co-established technological innovation platforms with over 30 companies including China National Offshore Oil Corporation, COMAC Shangai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., Ltd, Shenyang Blower Works Group Corporation, Xinjiang Dunhua Green Carbon Technology Co., Ltd, CRSC, Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group Co., Ltd, Dalian Metallurgical Bearing Co., Ltd, and Panasonic Appliances Refrigeration System (Dalian) Co., Ltd.


III. International Cooperation

DUT highly prioritizes international science and technology cooperation and proactively develops and consolidates cooperation with internationally acclaimed universities and institutes. It has created a mode for international cooperation and exchanges anchored by keeping professors as the mainstay, schools and departments as the platform and the university as the window. With the mode, DUT has set up an integrated network with a global vision focusing on talents cultivation and academic research. In addition, the university was honored with one China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award. Thirty Joint Research Centers/Laboratories have been put in place by cooperating with universities, companies and research institutes across Japan, England, Sweden, and Russia. These centers enable mutual beneficiary and effective cooperation in the fields of life and health, environment and clean energy. By leveraging its disciplinary strengths, DUT has taken active part in International Big Science Programs including ITER and EU's Horizon 2020 to join hands with the wider world in addressing major scientific problems and key technological problems related to the wellbeing of humanity.
