The paper entitled “Controllable 3D morphology and growth mechanism of quasicrystalline phase in directionally solidified Al–Mn–Be alloy”, written by youth teacher Dr. Kang Huijun and Prof. Wang Tongming form School of Materials, was published "Journal of Materials Research" which has an internationally wide influence.
Icosahedral quasicrystal was found by Israel scientist Shechtman in Al-Mn, which is really a breakthrough in material science. People know solid structure in a new perspective. Shechtman was also awarded the 2011 Nobel Prize.
Through adding a little Be in Al-Mn, Kang successfully got stable icosahedral quasicrystal and thus studied its properties in full scales.
“Journal of Materials Research” is a famous journal sponsored by Materials Research Society and Cambridge University Press. It is an SCI journal mainly publishing innovative papers about material discipline.
