June 22 -- On 22nd June the second China-American University President Forum was held in Rice University in Houston where Liu Yandong, vice president of state council gave a keynote speech. Attending the opening ceremony were Yuan Guiren, minister of Ministry of Education (MOE), Wang Zhigang, secretary of party committee of Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), and presidents from more than 40 universities, including Guo Dongming from Dalian University of Technology.
As thought factory and strategy repository, university play significant roles in expanding human mind, designing future development, as well as promoting global mutual trust, said Liu. She also hopes that no matter China universities or American universities both should explore further with regard to education, research, as well as social service in order to intellectually support bilateral cooperation and cultural inheritance.
Themed by “novel research direction of China-America” and “digital education, student mobility and general education”, the forum witnessed the sharing of idea by presidents from Chinese side including Beijing University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Dalian University of Technology, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, University of Macau etc., and American side including University of Chicago, University of Pennsylvania, Vanderbilt University etc. Taking as the case the Chinese largest management case repository in DUT and the cooperative research center co-built with Pennsylvania State University, Guo proposed that the research fruits should be applied into pedagogy and research platform should be extended for international student exchange.
It is acknowledged that the forum is a key part of the sixth round of the China-America cultural exchange, the following activities of which will be hold in Washington.
