On the occasion of this new year's coming, please let me representative the school to extend our sincere and new year's greetings to all the teachers, staff, retired veteran comrades and friends from all over the world. And also we show our gratitude to those who have long been concerned about and support the development of Dalian University of Technology.
The 2017 is a year that has a far-reaching impact and landmark in the history of Dalian University of Technology.
In the past year, guided by the socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era of Xi Jinping, we have studied and implemented the spirit of the 19th National People's Congress, thoroughly implementing the spirit of the conference on ideological and political work in colleges and universities in the whole country. We continued to deepen the special inspection tours conducted by the Central Government. The status of "Four Consciousness" has been continuously enhanced. The party's leadership, the party's construction, a complete and solemn ruling party have taken on a new situation and new achievements have been made in their career development. The school was selected as a Class A university in a national first-class university and officially opened a first-class university build in a new journey.
In 2017, the school teachers and students forge ahead, with full year of harvest.
We conscientiously implemented the "13th Five-Year Plan", steadily pushed forward the comprehensive reform and actively built up the target responsibility assessment system of "target-oriented, talent-centered, performance-based, and performance-oriented" to continuously inspire the vitality of schools. Formulated the first-class university construction plan and accelerated the construction of first-class disciplines. There were twelve disciplines entering QS World University Rank 500 in the world, which was an increase of 4 over 2016; and there were 9 disciplines entering the top 1% of ESI's international disciplines, which was up from 2016 In the fourth round of subject evaluation in the country. 7 subjects entered the top 10% of the country (Class A evaluation), and the rate of excellent subjects of the disciplines reached 21.9%. 46.9% of the participating disciplines entered the top 20% of the national rankings, and 68.8 % Of participating subjects into the country before 30%.
We inherit the red genes of running schools and closely focus on the fundamental tasks of the people-cultivation. We firmly grasp the core issue of comprehensively increasing the ability of cultivating qualified personnel and a high level of builders for the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Undergraduate teaching continuously consolidate and education in the Ministry of Education audit assessment was highly praised. The school was awarded the first batch of model colleges and universities in deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform in China. The major engineering students won four awards including one gold, one silver and two bronzes in the third "Internet plus" college students' innovation and entrepreneurship contest. They won three national first prizes and nine national second prizes in the 2017 National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest. The total number of awards ranked sixth in the country, and they also had very good results at other major domestic and international competitions. Panjin campus successfully completed the first talent training cycle of education and teaching work. The first undergraduate was welcomed by the community.
We insist on strengthening our school with qualified personnel and gaining historical breakthroughs by adding more academicians. Professor Kong Xianjing was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Professor Peng Xiaojun was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Professor Sun Licheng was elected to the academician of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering. In addition, 10 people passed the accreditation of "Chang Jiang Scholar", which was the highest in the school’s history. It included 3 distinguished professors, 5 young scholars and 2 lecture professors. There was 1 outstanding young people, 12 leading talents of "Wanren Plan", 3 "Qingqian", 4 "Youqing", 2 "Top Ten Talents" of Young Planners, 4 people, the Ministry of Science and innovation in key areas of a team.
The 2017, is also the year that teachers and students carry on the mission, develop and innovate bravely.
We have taken the initiative to pave the way for major national strategies and made strategic cooperation with the Xiong'an New Area, in which we have made initial progress. We have also participated in the "One Belt, One Road" project and organized the second meeting of the "National Association of University Industrial Innovation in the Core Area of the Silk Road Economic Belt", during which we signed a number of cooperation projects. We actively implement the strategy of integration of civilians and civilians, and made great contributions to large-scale projects in C919 large aircraft, the first domestic aircraft carrier and other major projects.
We know very well that to better fulfill the historical mission of "four services," we must continuously improve our ability to innovate. On the basis of constantly nurturing the "big team, big experts, large platforms, big projects and big achievements", six achievements were approved by the Award Commission of Science and Technology for National De-fence in the year, of which the first completed unit won the first prize of National Technological Invention 1, two national science and technology progress prize 1. In addition, as the first unit to be completed, 10 provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological awards were awarded first prize, of which 5 won the first prize of the Ministry of Education and the 5th in the national universities.
We strive to plan new acts of education in the overall national opening up and stick to the path of internationalization in running schools. This year, the school and the University of Leicester, Belarussian National University, respectively, established a cooperation in running schools, and ushered in the first freshmen, and we have become the first-class university to build colleges and universities approved the most Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions.
There is no return without paying. Behind every achievement of the school, there are untiring efforts and painstaking efforts of large workers. It is also inseparable from the long-term concern and strong support of the vast number of alumni and friends from all walks of life. The 19th National People's Congress leads the socialism with Chinese characteristics into a new era and has sounded the horn of the times in deciding to build a moderately prosperous society in all respects. We are supposed to seize the great victories of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era to meet new and higher requirements.
In 2018, it will be the first year to implement the spirit of the 19th National People's Congress and it is also the key year for carrying out the "13th Five-Year Plan". Standing at a new historical starting point, we must continue studying and implementing the spirit of the 19th National People's Congress, and take the new era of Xi Jinping's socialism with Chinese characteristics as a guide. We must make it take root in China, and continue to adhere to the socialist direction of running schools. In addition, we should implement the fundamental tasks of the people-cultivation, deepen the comprehensive reform, improve the system of responsibility examination for the construction of first-rate universities, promote the connotative development of schools, speed up the construction of a world-class university with distinctive characteristics, and better fulfill the historic mission of "four services". In order to build a powerful nation for education and win a comprehensive and well-to-do society, we are supposed to make more contributions to realize the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
The new era should have a new atmosphere and a new era should be given new achievements. Let us unite closely around the party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core, conscientiously safeguard the authority of the Central Committee and centralize and unify leadership, strengthen the "four senses" and the "four self-confidence", inherit the red gene of the great work, and consciously shoulder the responsibilities entrusted by the new era Duty and mission of the great work.
