Recently, the first Dalian University of Technology-Cardiff University (DUT-CU) Joint Workshop for Research Collaboration was held in DUT. The attendees of the two universities conducted in-depth discussions on the further cooperation and achieved fruitful results.
The opening ceremony of the workshop was held on 29thSeptember. Professor Zhongxuan Luo, the principal assistant of DUT attended the ceremony and delivered thewelcomingspeech. The representatives of Cardiff University, Professor Omer Rana, Haijiang Li, Johannes Benedikt, Jianzhong Wu, Shunqi Pan and Chris Yang along with theDUT researchersfrom various fieldsattended the ceremony.
Professor Luoemphasized,in his speech,that DUT and CU had a profound collaboration foundation as the strategic collaboration agreementhas been signed between the two universitiesto carry out themutual researchcollaboration and jointstudent cultivation.At present, the DUT-CU Smart Engineering Centre has already been established and attracted many excellent researchers from multi-disciplinary research fields. It was hoped that the workshop will deepen the collaboration and promote the development ofboth universities.
Professor Cong Fengyu, the director of the office of international cooperation and exchangein DUT and Professor Omer Rana, head of the international office in Cardiff,respectivelygaveintroductions regarding the currentlycollaboration between the two universities and proposed further actions. Professor Li Haijianggave a talk about the establishedDUT-CU Smart Engineering Centre for the research on Building Information Modeling (BIM).
During the 29thand 30thSep, a series ofparallel workshop sessions were carried out between CU and DUT researchers in theFaculty ofVehicle Engineering and Mechanics, School of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Infrastructure Engineering, School of Software Technology, Faculty of Electronic Informationand ElectricalEngineering, School of Physics, School of Optoelectronic Engineering and InstrumentationScience and State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering.
In the closing ceremony on30thSep, the researchers of the two sidessummed up thediscussionresults and the potential collaboration aspects, including establishing a number of joint research laboratories for collaborative research, setting up the mutual visiting mechanism for researchers at all levels, promoting the undergraduate and postgraduate exchanges and degree-awardingprogram between two universities and bringing in mutual teaching courses. Professor Cong explained theinternationalization projects in DUTin detail and promoted the collaborative research work and student cultivation. Professor Rana spoke highly ofall the seminars given during the workshop and encouraged researchers to carry on the momentum of this event and act on the collaboration as fast as possible. In addition, he hoped that more researchers will collaborate in a broader field for better strategic collaboration between two universities.
