The Number of Patent Applications Published by Dalian University of Technology Enters the Top 50 Global Education Institutions

Recently, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) released data on PCT (Patent Cooperation Agreement) patent applications from countries and enterprises around the world in 2018, among which the number of patent applications published by Dalian University of Technology is up to 53. Therefore, it had ranked 44th in global education institutions, 8th in Chinese universities, and 836 in overall international rankings compared to 2017.

PCT, which is shortened from Patent Cooperation Treaty, is an international cooperation treaty in the field of patents. It chooses to enter different countries to obtain patent rights in different countries through a unified international application, simplifying the procedures for applying for protection in a number of countries so that it is more efficient and economical. PCT and foreign authorized patents are important indicators for enhancing the international influence of scientific and technological achievements, and are of great significance to the internationalization strategic layout of first-class universities.

In recent years, our university has attached great importance to international cooperation in intellectual property rights and expanded the overseas distribution of patents. In its Patent Management and Funding Measures revised in 2016, it clarifies that it supports international patents that meet the needs of the state, industry, and industry, and supports the development of inventors' own disciplines and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. At the same time, international patents are one of the important indicators for technology innovation and internationalization of the university. The Office of the Intellectual Property Management Committee of our university held 8 consecutive sessions of the Intellectual Property Publicity Month of Dalian University of Technology, and went deep into the department of the university to carry out policy publicity and practical training. Meanwhile, we have participated in the Geneva International Invention Exhibition for four sessions and won 6 gold medals, which has expanded our exchanges and cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and enhanced the international influence of intellectual property work of our university.
