On June 15, Dalian University of Technology held the World University Principals Forum. As one of the 70th Anniversary Celebrations, representatives from over 70 universities around the world attended, including world-renowned scholars and principals of famous university such as Cardiff University, University of Leicester, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Osaka University, Belarusian State University, National Tsing Hua University, Tianjin University, and Tongji University and so on. Nearly 200 people gathered to focus on the common issues facing higher education in the world today, conducting academic exchanges and exploring new paths for higher education reform and international talent training.
Guo Dongming, the principal of Dalian University of Technology, delivered a speech entitled “The Chinese and Foreign Top University Talents ‘Classmates Friendship’ Breeding Program” (hereinafter referred to as “The Classmate Plan”). He pointed out that it was the common responsibility of Chinese and foreign universities to allow students to enhance mutual understanding and mutual friendship in the mutual study abroad. It was hoped to rely on the resources and advantages of the university to exchange resources, and to build DUT into a international university, making it become the pioneers who jointly train talents in science and management in order to take the responsibility for contributions on the world peace and development which the world-class universities should do.
Li Jiajun, Party Secretary of Tianjin University, Andrei Karol, Principal of Belarusian State University, Chen Jie, Principal of Tongji University, and Colin Riordan, Principal of Cardiff University, UK, Kazuya Masu, Principal of the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, made a keynote speech.
The principals and scholars of the conference held in-depth discussions on the theme of "the practice and thinking of university system reform", "thinking of university-university-research cooperation" and "university training of international first-class talents".
